History of Tradition

  • San Francisco is celebrated for its iconic culinary masterpieces, yet our world-famous sourdough undeniably shines above the rest!   

  • It made its debut in the Golden State during the Gold Rush of the 1840s. Gold miners appreciated its durability for their camps, along with the convenience of sourcing yeast. Despite limited baking supplies, some miners successfully nurtured a sourdough starter, which, alongside a bounty of gold, journeyed to the city by the bay. The iconic cool, fog-laden days of San Francisco create an ideal habitat for wild yeast to flourish.
